City leaders, OCA foresee business as usual

30 May 1992

Springfield city officials and leaders of the Oregon Citizens Alliance agreed that changes in city operations are not needed to conform to the anti-gay rights initiative recently passed by voters. The measure, which passed by a margin of 55 percent, adds language to the city charter that prohibits the government from promoting homosexuality. The OCA supported the measure so that homosexuals cannot be given special minority status. Opponents of the measure plan boycotts, court test cases and other actions to force repeal of the law.
