The Annual Report of the Oregon Intellectual Freedom Clearinghouse summarized 54 written challenges made during the school year that ended June 30, 1991. Seven books were ordered removed from library shelves in Oregon. The most frequent objections to public and school library materials were graphic sex, violence and occult themes. Juvenile access to adult materials was challenged at the Multnomah County Library, but the library director reaffirmed the library’s commitment to open access for all ages.
