Marks Banned Books Week: Newport Public Library presents graphic display of books locked out by censors

2 October 1991

The Newport Public Library celebrated the 200th anniversary of the Bill of Rights and the freedom to read by creating a striking display for Banned Books Week. The display features a bookcase wrapped in chains, showing books by children’s and adult authors that have been censored. Each year libraries and bookstores use displays and activities to draw attention to censorship of books which threatens intellectual freedom.
