Abstract
"Eli's Song" created controversy for a number of elementary school libraries near Molalla. The author, an elementary teacher and 14 year resident of the Molalla area, saw his characters depicting extremes and one thoughtful uncle who brought common sense to the argument. Parents saw depictions of teen suicide and negative representations of Oregon and Loggers. Concern that the book is being used for political agendas is mentioned.
