Abstract
In contrast with the district's curriculum council decision to deny a teacher's request to add "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" to the sophomore curriculum, school board members voted in favor of adding it. Board members agreed to read the book before their vote and noted that the book was age-appropriate, considering what students this age view on television or in films. The writer applauds the board for taking the time to read the book before making a decision.
