Bookstores and libraries along the Oregon Coast celebrated Banned Books Week with displays of materials challenged nationwide. People who challenge books typically want to protect their children and others from difficult topics, according to librarian Sue Jenkins and bookstore manager Patti Siberz. They suggest that people should be allowed to make their own choices about reading material, that diversity is promoted by providing a wide selection of books.
