Principal quits over book ban

28 May 1946

Principal Colin McEwen of the Nehalem Valley High School resigned over the banning of two books. The school board enacted the ban, and the head of the board, Mrs. Pearl Vincent, stated the board acted at the request of parents. The Principal stated it would be impossible to teach literature if he was not allowed to use reading materials that portray real life.
