Library displays challenged books

2 October 1991

The Newberg Public Library is participating in Banned Books Week 1991 – Celebrating the Freedom to Read with a book display. Well-known books, such as “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Of Mice and Men,” and “A Wrinkle In Time” have been challenged or banned in past years for objectionable language or content. People who challenge books are often motivated to protect their families, communities and values. Banned Books Week is sponsored by the American Library Association and other organizations to support the basic right to read guaranteed in the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
