Abstract
The Philomath School Board sided with librarian, Shirley Mason, in keeping a book about palm reading in the school’s library. This was one of three books that Jack Kempees, city council member, wanted removed from the school’s library. Mason did remove one of the books “Visons of the Future: Magic Boards” because it was poorly written, not because of the subject. Kempees withdrew his complaint about another book “Science and the Supernatural” because it did give scientific explanation for supernatural events. Mason said that the book in question was not required reading and was there for students who might be interested in the subject.
