Local libraries put banned books on display

28 September 2011

National Banned Books Week, sponsored by the American Library Association, is a time to celebrate the freedom to read. Censorship threatens the freedom to choose and read any material that is protected by the Constitution. Most challenges or requests to ban books in school and public libraries are based on objections of offensive language, violence or sexually explicit content.
