Board may face recall

11 May 1995

A group of parents considered initiating a recall of Junction City school board members based on board members' decision to retain Alice Walker's "The Color Purple" as an assigned text for high school students. Parents objected to the tome because of sexual content and profanity. Some parents planned on forming a chapter of the organization Parents for Academic Excellence and circulating a newsletter that listed other books used by the school district so parents would know what their children are reading.
