Abstract
The author reviews the professional and popular, treatment literature on treatment of the chemically dependent family. The diversity of views found in the professional literature on family treatment, definitions of chemical dependency and/or addiction, the lack of studies published on family treatment, the emphasis on treatment of the chemically dependent/addicted individual and spouse and the neglect of other family members in treatment were discussed. The author found the popular and treatment literature inclusive of the family in treatment as well as suggestions and guidelines for treatment. Suggestions for family treatment and tor the professional psychologist working with chemically dependent families were offered.
