Eating disorders and weight or body preoccupations affect great numbers of women. The literature review here provides a feminist analysis of the sociopolitical factors related to eating disorders and body/weight preoccupations. This is accomplished through exploring the historical, cultural, and developmental influences which have shaped the current problem of eating disorders. The applicability of feminist therapy theory and feminist therapies for eating disorders is also discussed. Finally, a comprehensive feminist framework designed to enhance the understanding and conceptualization of such problems is offered.
