The use of a bicycle Biopace chainring was compared to a conventional chainring to determine if cycling efficiency could be enhanced with the use of the Biopace chainring. Cycling efficiency was measured as the time to reach a target heart rate of 75% of the subject's predicted maximal heart rate. Eighteen male Pacific University students completed two stress tests, one with a conventional chainring and one with a Biopace chainring. The times to reach the target heart rate were recorded. It was concluded that there was no statistically significant difference between the two chainrings in the amount of time that it took to reach the target heart rate.
