This study examined the changes in health status of graduate physical therapy students in their first semester of a three year professional masters program. Twenty seven students (7 males, 16 females) were tested at the beginning and end of their first semester. VO2max, percent body fat, psychological stress, and dietary intake were analyzed using a one-way ANOVA. Results showed VO2max remained unchanged, and the frequency of psychological uplifts and percent body fat decreased. Nutritional analysis revealed poor eating habits with many students consuming less than the recommended number of calories. They consumed excessive amounts of sodium, and insufficient amounts of fiber and calcium.
