Case study: Social networking of a middle school from a four points perspective

The focus of this four point case study is the social networking of a middle school located within the Sooke School District. Fifty-two students, eight teachers, the school counselor, and a school employee participated in this cross-sectional look into a middle school's social population. Findings are viewed within the conceptual framework of Charles Horton Cooley's theory of the "looking glass self." The three most popular groups at this school are labeled preps, jocks, and wannabes (this last group is perceived as wanting to be affiliated with a gang). These groups are put into focus and discussed for the benefit of future educators.
