Juvenile delinquency is a growing problem in our society. This thesis addresses the issue of juvenile delinquency and the efficacy of current interventions, and presents a possible additional component of interventions with juvenile delinquents. First, an overview of the literature concerning juvenile delinquency, including an historical perspective and the theories of etiology is provided. A review utilizing meta-analytic studies concerning the efficacy of current interventions with juvenile delinquency is then presented. The literature supports positive effects for some modalities of treatment. The theory of "possible selves" is presented within a developmental model of self concept as a potential component of successful interventions with juvenile delinquents.
