Non-surgical treatment of cataracts

1 May 1991

Cataracts are a common cause of vision loss in the elderly. Once non-surgical methods of treatment are reliably tested, eye drops, injections, tablets, or diet changes may prevent, delay, or reverse some forms of cataracts. The treatment depends on whether the cause is from chemicals, radiation, age, or diabetes. Treatments include nutritional supplements, organic compounds, plant and extracts, aldose reductase inhibitors, and others. Some cataracts may be preventable.
