The purpose of this qualitative study is to identify the various effective classroom management strategies and techniques used by an elementary school teacher. This study compares the strategies used in a fourth grade classroom to the methods found through research of four recognized leaders in the field of classroom management. The data for this study incorporates methodological approaches including classroom observations, a teacher interview and student questionnaire responses. The data revealed that many of the methods found through research were successfully used in the classroom. These methods included rules, reinforcers, consequences, encouraging responsibility and providing students with choices. Through my research, I found that effective classroom management strategies are essential to a positive teacher/student relationship.
