Forty percent of the United States population is presbyopic, yet less than 1% of contact lenses dispensed are bifocals. In an effort to fill this niche, Paragon Optical has introduced a translating design that incorporates an encapsulated high index segment into the highly successful FluoroPerm 60 rigid material. Ten subjects were fit with the Paragon lens and evaluated on the basis of comfort, acuity, and ocular health. Lens parameter changes were made according to manufacturer recommendation, and the success of these changes was then determined. Good fitting success was achieved, but depended largely on strict patient selection.
