The intent of this study was to determine if a relationship existed between talocrural dorsiflexion range of motion (ROM) and calcaneal inversion ROM, calcaneal eversion ROM, resting calcaneal position and center of balance; and between resting calcaneal position and percentage of arch height change. Twenty-eight subjects participated in the study in which goniometric measurements, arch height measurements, and center of balance data utilizing the Chattecx Balance System were taken. Descriptive and correlational statistics were used to analyze the data collected. It was found that no relationship existed between talocrural dorsiflexion ROM and any of the other dependent variables, or between resting calcanceal position and percentage of arch height change. Further research in this area should include utilizing a larger and symptomatic population, better instrumentation, and should be performed within the context of a dynamic activity, such as the gait cycle.
