The intent of this paper is to give the reader an overview of the philosophy of whole language as espoused by current educators. My Literature review will provide the reader with some of the background information I used to analyze my classroom observations. All the sources listed in my reference helped establish the frame of mind I upheld in my search for whole language in a first grade classroom. It is my hope that the reader will leave this paper with a greater understanding of an often misunderstood philosophy.
