Juvenile corrections and detention officers face considerable organizational and operational stressors maintaining the safety of inmates, staff, and the community, which can result in corrections fatigue. The burnout and secondary trauma experienced by officers put them at risk for physical and mental health problems. The current study examined the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of a 6-week mindfulness-based wellness program with juvenile detention officers. Results demonstrated decreased organizational and operational stressors, exhaustion related to burnout, and statistically significant decrease in posttraumatic stress. Further, results evidenced increased facets of mindfulness such as non-judgement, as well as increased overall positive affect and well-being. Implications for future research and clinical practice are discussed.
