Both the fields of clinical and sport psychology have made efforts to understand why some endure stress better than others. Hardiness, in the clinical psychology literature, and mental toughness, in the sport psychology literature, have both been described as constructs assisting individuals in tolerating stress as well as in improving wellness protection. A literature review. comparing hardiness and mental toughness will illuminate the degree to which these constructs are related. The resulting similarities and differences will be explored to determine how they . can assist in growing the base of empirical interventions available to clinical and sport psychologists, while also providing a sense of the direction required of future research to address gaps in understanding the trait of psychological endurance.
