The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine the role of sociodramatic play in an early childhood classroom. My research looks specifically at the characteristics of sociodramatic play, and the developmental gains fostered by this highly interactive form of play fosters. In addition, this project concludes with recommendations to educators on how to incorporate purposeful, structured sociodramatic play into the early childhood curriculum.
Some of the guiding themes in this study are drawn from the notion that play is a primary method of learning for young children. Therefore, it is essential to understand the developmental functions play serves and the benefits fostered through play-based activities.
