1 January 1990

Based on traditional Chinese medical approaches toward health, taijiquan has become one of the most popular traditional physical educational activities in China. This project is designed to be an investigation of the effect of taijiquan and an appeal to improve the quality of taijiquan research.

The philosophy and concepts that underline the practice of this project are designed to compare Chinese traditional medical approaches toward health with Western models of health. Traditional Chinese terms related to taijiquan are defined and analyzed.

In connection with traditional Chinese medical theory some important hypotheses are raised in the area of fitness medicine. Using relevant data this project will suggest how bodily systems such as the central nervous system, the circulatory system and the muscular system may be influenced by taijiquan.
