This dissertation is a program evaluation conducted at St. Mary's Home for Boys. The importance and originality of this evaluation is addressed. Several adolescent residential outcome studies are also discussed, as well as an overview of token economy. The evaluation included 28 adolescent boys whose primary diagnosis is Conduct Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or Oppositional Defiant Disorder. Approximately 82% of the boys are Caucasian; . all ate from the Pacific Northwest. A description of St. Mary's token economy and therapies are included. The program evaluation involves a comparison of individual and group change on standardized pre- test measures in relation to post.: measures (the Child Behavior Checklist, the Social Skills :Rating Scale, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-Adolescent, the Reynolds Adolescent Depression Scale, and the Conners' Ratings Scales). Pre- and post-therapists' progress ratings were also evaluated. Follow-up indexes, obtained approximately 3- 6 months after discharge, were compared to post- measures. Data was also evaluated in order to determine whether or not pre-test measures appear to be predictors of individual and group change. Therapists' ratings were evaluated in order to determine if they aided in predicting outcome. This study found that, overall, St, Mary's program is effective at individual and group levels. Issues relating to limitations of this program evaluation, as well as generalizability are also discussed.
