Musculoskeletal problems of musicians: A descriptive study

Musicians often suffer from neck and back pain as well as other musculoskeletal problems that could be decreased or eliminated through proper education and instruction. The purpose of this study was to formally identify a population that could benefit from medical intervention to decrease common "musculoskeletal conditions. The study consisted of a mailed questionnaire sent to a random selection of musicians associated with the local Musicians' Union. A wide variety of musculoskeletal problems were identified in 76.4% of the subjects. In addition, of the 89 total subjects, 84.3% desired postural training or exercises to prevent further musculoskeletal problems
