The equality of ability grouping: How one school tracks students

Abstract-In this study I was primarily interested in observations of ability grouping in public high schools. This inquiry begins with a contextual perspective of tracking. I explain the reasons for ability grouping and the potential consequences associated with it such as the self-fulfilling prophecy. In my observations I examined homogeneous and heterogeneous classes. I found that both of these types of _classes were favorable to high school students for the most part. I conclude this paper by saying that equality is possible with ability grouping if it is used sparingly.
