Abstract

BACKGROUND: Blood loss in trauma patients is a serious and difficult to manage cause of morbidity and mortality in the emergency medicine context. Established treatments like massive transfusion have been augmented in the in-hospital setting by the addition of tranexamic acid. But do patients experience improved benefits from tranexamic acid when it is administered earlier in the course of traumatic injuries either in the hospital or by EMS personnel in the field?
