Enhancing the effects of appetite awareness training through the use of experiential focusing

This case study investigates the use of Focusing as an enhancement to the treatment of AAT in the treatment of a 44-year-old Caucasian female with Binge Eating Disorder. AAT was utilized to teach eating in response to physiological hunger cues and to stop eating in response to physiological satiety cues. Focusing was hypothesized to assist the client in finding alternative means of eating in response to states of negative affect and to distinguish between physiological cues and emotional states. Initial results support the use of this combined treatment form for BED.
