This research project assesses the effectiveness of the new Orientation class at Robert S. Farrell School in fostering self-advocacy skills in adjudicated youth. 1 Specifically, the project assesses changes in students' self-advocacy in three areas: skills, communication, and self-knowledge. These three areas are considered vital components of protective factors which enable children to survive and to succeed under difficult circumstances. Data was collected from students who participated in the Orientation class and from teachers who received students from the Orientation class.
