The impact of teachers on classroom behaviors of children from divorced families

The idea that divorce is the cause of a variety of behavior problems in children is widely held in both the public and professional domains. It has been estimated that during the 90's over one-third of children in the United States might be expected to experience a divorce before they reach the age of 18. These figures suggest that a potentially traumatic disruption of significant familial relationships will become a normative experience for children growing up in the United States. The present paper will focus on some of the reported classroom behaviors of elementary children associated in divorce. In general, the most commonly reported behavior problems associated with divorce are aggression, depression, stress and anxiety.
