The purpose of this study is to determine the important cultural values and needs of military families and culturally adapt an evidenced-based parenting program, The Incredible Years (IY), for military families with young children using a cultural adaption model, the Ecological Validity Framework (EVF). This dissertation includes a literature review of military family culture, the unique challenges military families encounter (e.g., attachment disruptions), the IY curriculum, and framework for cultural adaption; methods of strategy with how a portion of the curriculum was adapted utilizing eight EVF domains, results from collection of data, and the integration of the cultural adaptation model. Findings included specific ways to adapt the IY program specifically for military families. Limitations included low participant attendance and minimal military demographic diversity. Future researchers are encouraged to adapt the remaining programs for the IY curriculum geared toward the three to six age ranges, as well as conduct a pilot study to further examine and vet out unforeseen problem areas with the adapted IY curriculum.
