Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to develop a rationale for the use of Mindfulness Based Interventions (MBIs) as a treatment for Epilepsy. I summarize the history of MBIs and Epilepsy, and current treatment for Epilepsy. I explain the mechanisms of mindfulness interventions and compare them to commonly used epilepsy treatments.
Research is presented on psychobiological effects of Epilepsy and MBIs on the brain. I outline different possibilities to mindfulness practices and why they can be useful as treatments options for epileptic patients. In doing so I support possibility that MBIs have an ability to decrease the prevalence of symptoms of epilepsy.
