Determining the appropriate scope and content of psychopharmacologic training, and psychologists' desire for such training, are central to the debate about whether professional psychologists should pursue prescription privileges (PP). First, surveys tapping opinions about training for PP are reviewed. Second, psychopharmacology curricula taught to nonphysician prescribers are examined. Third, proposed training models for teaching psychologists to prescribe are reviewed and compared. Finally, conclusions about the feasibility of PP are discussed in view of educational requirements and suggestions for further research are offered.
