A comparison of three models of time-limited group psychotherapy

26 July 1996

Three models of time-limited group psychotherapy are analyzed: Oregon Kaiser
Permanente's diagnostic model, Simon Budman's adult developmental model, and Etta Martin's psychodynmamic process model. These models are considered relative to five parameters of group development and management: selection of clients, composition of the group, client preparation, leader role, and group format. The effect of manipulating these parameters to promote the types of curative factors identified by Yalom is also evaluated for each of the models. Recommendations are made for further research on time-limited group psychotherapy.
