Knowledge structures of master teachers/coaches: A pilot study

The purpose of this study is to test the cognitive structures of the master teacher and master coach using a modified technique called cognitive mapping. This technique generates a unique structure that displays important relationships develop in the subjects memory about concepts taken from his/her education and or field experiences. The usefulness of this cognitive mapping instrument is to assess one's pedagogical content knowledge. Plus produce a valid scoring method to evaluate the structures created by the master teacher/coach in their content area. In addition, the three measures (total words, levels, and total score) provided stability in determining the value of the technique. The information developed by this study has proven useful providing a classroom technique to assess cognitive structures.
