The purpose of this qualitative study is to investigate the impact and effectiveness of various types of visual stimuli on student motivation, and to determine if students are positively, negatively, or neutrally affected by its presence in the learning environment. The fundamental question focuses on ascertaining the best methods of visual stimulation for motivating high school students in the learning process. Data were collected from teacher interviews, student surveys, and classroom observation over an eight-month period. A review of the research literature indicates that visual stimuli can have an marked impact on student motivation and learning. The data that has been collected in this study supports many of the findings in the literature review. The study reveals a positive correlation between some types of visual stimuli in the classroom and its affect on student motivation. Specifically, contemporary videos, student created materials, games, and artistic wall displays were indicated to be the most "motivating" visual stimuli in the high school classroom
