Manifestations of news media threat in individuals with Schizophrenia

Television news media, in the form of local and national broadcasts, are common means for entertainment as well as learning about the society in which we live. Sensationalized media may cause viewers to misjudge their perception of risk in the environment, particularly regarding crime victimization and disasters such as terrorism, resulting in increased stress after exposure. In this review of the literature, the concepts that individuals with psychotic illness may incorporate information from the news media into delusional ideas or may experience stress that may in turn lead to a relapse of illness are examined.
